charlotte petty grew up and lives in cambridge, massachusetts with her partner and their cat-sized rabbit. she is a maker, educator, and researcher. when making, she draws inspiration from her work with young children, specifically large emotion, a sense of play and experimentation, and the work of her favorite children’s book illustrators. she is also inspired by textile design and fiber arts processes such as weaving and dying, and uses these processes and ideas in her work with paper and clay.

she has been drawing since she was old enough to hold a pencil, and first learned to throw clay at the wheel in 2017.

charlotte was a toddler teacher for nearly a decade, and now works in early childhood research and is a teaching fellow at the harvard graduate school of education.
