MATERIAL PLAY !

3-SessionWorkshop Pilot

This 3-session workshop invites adults to rediscover the joy of free and creative exploration through play with materials. A blend of art history, expressive arts therapy, and tenants of early childhood pedagogies, each week focuses on a fundamental element of art: LINE, COLOR, or SHAPE.

Material Play sessions start off with a quick visual overview of how artists across different traditions and media have explored that week’s featured element (line/color/shape). Participants then engage in hands-on exercises using a wide range of art materials (loose parts) from the "Material Buffet" (a table full of paper, crayons, ink, paint, pencils and more!) With an emphasis on process over product, the workshop creates a playful and expressive space for adults to reconnect with the focused, sometimes meditative, and often uninhibited creativity often experienced and modeled by young children.
